Our trained near-peer health educators guide and mentor students through the program, which engages teens in interactive health lessons, provides ongoing resources and support to bring health promoting activities to their campuses, and encourages service learning through our student-led health innovation project, Project Health.
Students will share their preferences in the registration form and will be added to a club based on availability. Each club group will have 12 weekly virtual meetings from February-May 2022. Each meeting is scheduled for 1.5 hours and will be hosted on the video conferencing platform Zoom.
- Making health happen for yourself! Have a health goal you want to achieve? Want to learn more about how to live your best life? We’ll do activities that support your personal journey, whether that’s physical, social, or emotional health!
- Making health happen for our community! The club will discuss challenges teens in your community face, brainstorm solutions, then test them. For example, you may notice there aren’t enough fun physical activity opportunities for people who don’t play sports, so you decide to start “Fitness Friday” and bring new activities to the student body every week. We’ll use a method called “design thinking” to help us come up with the best solutions. We’ll showcase the solution at a national showcase to earn funding to put our ideas into action!
Each spring teens from all over the country participate in our Project Health Seminar. Over the course of 12 weeks, teens are challenged to identify a health concern in their community and innovate solutions. Utilizing IDEO’s Design Thinking framework, Project Health participants learn about the social determinants of health and problem solving techniques as they develop potential solutions that address them. Our annual showcase brings together all Project Health participants for a virtual event celebration their civic engagement and awarding projects with grants so they can put their ideas into action.
